Directors’ Update – December 2025

Directors’ Update – December 2025

As we come to the end of 2025, the Directors would like to wish all our Members and Bishopton residents a very Merry Christmas and our warmest wishes for the New Year.

It has been five months since our last update in July, and it has been a busy period for Bishopton Community Development Trust. Since the new Board took office in February 2025, we have:

  • strengthened our management and governance arrangements and improved transparency and communication with Members and residents;
  • worked to better understand and explain the costs of maintaining Holmpark;
  • supported local recreation by awarding a grant to the Tennis Club for new floodlights;
  • connected corporate volunteering opportunities with Bishopton Football Club to help improve their pavilion at the Thistle Playing Field;
  • Joined the Development Trust Association for Scotland, which provides support and advice to Trusts on community development, finance and governance;
  • engaged independent consultants to help us assess the current market position and long-term viability options for the Holmpark Playing Fields.

Below is a summary of key developments since our last update.

Directors & Meetings

Your current Board of Directors are:

Graeme Adam
Jim Blair (Chair)
Lynne Hutchinson
Derek McGowan
Mike Tait
Mike Tomenson
David Woodrow

Director Andy Fraser resigned on 1 November due to a potential conflict with his employment. We are very grateful for Andy’s contribution over the past nine months.

Director Graham Adam moved from Bishopton, meaning he is no longer eligible for Trust membership. Given Graham’s extensive experience and valuable support to the Board over the years, Directors have exercised the constitutional provision (Article 72) to co-opt him as a Director. We appreciate Graham’s ongoing commitment to the Trust and the community.

Directors continue to meet monthly, and approved minutes are published on the Trust website. Minutes from meetings held since July can be found here:

Seeking a Treasurer

Despite repeated appeals throughout the year, we have been unable to recruit a volunteer to join the Board as Treasurer—a role essential to the smooth running of the Trust. Responsibilities include managing our bank accounts, keeping accurate financial records, paying bills, and liaising with our auditors and OSCR.

We are now willing to remunerate a suitably qualified individual. This role is not onerous and would suit a current or former bookkeeper or accountant, or a diligent student seeking practical experience.

If you—or someone you know—may be able to help, please contact us at BishoptonDevelopmentTrust@gmail.com. Further details about the role and time commitment involved are available on the Trust website.

Maintenance of Holmpark

Directors have been working to gain a clearer understanding of the maintenance needs and costs associated with Holmpark.

  • Annual Public Liability and site insurance, including insurance for a tractor and cutting equipment used by Bishopton Rugby Club, is £660.26 for the current year.
  • Maintenance of the periphery of Holmpark—grass and hedge cutting, tree and shrub care, litter picking and weeding—costs £8,520 for the period July 2025–July 2026. This contract was awarded to TDH Landscapes during the summer.

Bishopton Rugby Club continues to maintain the majority of the site with regular grass cutting and undertaking ground treatment (at the Club’s cost). In return, the Rugby Club trains and plays at Holmpark free of charge (weather and drainage permitting). The Club is recording all maintenance activities, helping Directors better quantify its contribution.

Work on a formal Lease Agreement with the Rugby Club has been paused while we explore an independent feasibility report to assess market value and leasing options for the site. This report will ensure any future lease is both robust and evidence-based.

Use of Holmpark

A reminder that any groups or organisations wishing to use Holmpark must obtain permission from the Trust in advance. As the landowner, the Trust must ensure that proper insurance and risk controls are in place. You can find out more about the requirements and how to request permission from the Trust website.

2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Our last Annual General Meeting was held in April 2025 and we expect to hold our next AGM in the Spring 2026. The AGM is an important meeting where general members of the Trust consider our accounts, elect Directors to run the Trust and have an opportunity to discuss and question Directors on their activities over the year.

The meeting must be attended by a minimum of 30 General Members to meet the quorum required by the Trust’s Constitution. We would be very grateful if Members could make every effort to attend the AGM when it is scheduled. A formal notice will be sent out nearer the time.

One Lottery

Bishopton Community Development Trust is registered with One Lottery, an online fundraising lottery for charities and community groups across the UK.

For just £1 per week, you could win a £25,000 weekly jackpot—while 50p of each £1 goes directly to the Trust. Funds raised help us cover site maintenance costs, and with enough support, could also contribute to improving local facilities.

If you’d like to take part, please visit our One Lottery fundraiser page. Good luck!
